The director oversees the production of an audiovisual work, usually for film or television.
The director directs the making of a film, controlling the artistic and dramatic aspects, visualizing the script and directing the crew (actors and technicians) to bring the script to life.
Director's role and missions
The director's work often begins with the script, with a breakdown of the shots to lay the foundations for the staging and shooting schedule. Then, in coordination with the production manager, he chooses the crews.
During the shoot, he or she directs the actors, coordinates the technical teams, determines the schedule and manages unforeseen events. After shooting, the director supervises editing and post-production. During editing, the director and chief editor organize the images shot with the cameras into a film, giving it its rhythm and using various techniques to support its aesthetics and give it its artistic value.

The director's role and tasks during post-production
During post-production, he makes sure that the work of the post-production teams fits in well with the film. All these activities are carried out in close collaboration with technicians, from cinematographers to sound engineers, framers, editors and scriptwriters.
On the television side, the director's job on a multi-camera set is to conceive and bring to fruition a television program. Documentary filmmakers, on the other hand, work with reality, objective facts and specific constraints.
