Post-production management is the strategic link between a film's artistic vision and its technical realization.
On commercials, the post-production director determines a budget and then, after shooting, assembles a team adapted to the film's image and sound requirements.
Role and responsibilities of the post-production manager
He reports directly to the production manager, and although he doesn't have as many practical or legal responsibilities, he's a sort of stand-in for him during the post-production phase.
He supervises the film's finishing touches, particularly during the editing phase (sound and visual). His work varies in importance according to the nature of the project. It becomes particularly important if the film contains a large number of digital special effects. It is he who will directly supervise the implementation of these effects, and coordination between the various teams. His task is, of course, directly linked to the technological complexity of the film, and increases accordingly.
He also acts as a privileged intermediary between the production and all the technical teams responsible for delivering a final version of the work.
