The location manager provides a film crew with all the material, technical, logistical and administrative resources they need.
He is an essential collaborator of the production manager. The location manager is involved from the pre-production stage, in scouting sets and locations for filming.
The stage manager's role and tasks
The location manager then works primarily with the assistant director in preparing the shoot, ensuring that the necessary permits are obtained to work in the selected locations, and managing travel and accommodation for the crews.
He or she is also in charge of equipment management, in terms of transportation and rendering, as well as most of the directly practical problems that may arise on the sites already mentioned. He or she may head a team of assistant stage managers and, on certain projects, may also be responsible for monitoring the schedule, or any practical difficulties that may arise.
