Role and missions of the writing coordinator

On a day-to-day basis, the writing coordinator organizes the writing process, assigning episodes, synthesizing proposals and harmonizing working documents. He or she is also responsible for formatting meeting notes and keeping the series bible up to date. Without his intervention, the fluidity of the writing process would be compromised.

Key skills to master :

• Writing room methodology and tools.
• Project management applied to serial production.
• In-depth knowledge of narrative formats (soap operas, mini-series, anthologies).
• Organizational skills and editorial rigor.
• Comfortable using digital collaborative tools.

Role in the manufacturing chain :

In the production chain, his function is crucial: he ensures that the series remains coherent despite the multiplicity of pens involved. He smoothes the process and ensures that episodes are part of a solid overall vision.

Diplomas and Programs

ESRA prepares students for this profession through its Bac +5 DHEC Scriptwriting and Directing program, which puts them in real-life writers' rooms. The ESRA Cinéma & Audiovisuel curriculum at Bac+3, with its writing workshops, is also an excellent basis for understanding the coordination and organization mechanisms of serial work. This is particularly true if you choose the Serial Production option in your third year.
