The executive producer is responsible for the actual production of the film or program, within the agreed budget.
In this capacity, he hires teams and draws up contracts in compliance with labor law and collective bargaining agreements.
Role and duties of the Executive Producer
He is the person appointed by the production company to take charge of the film's production, without necessarily owning the film's exploitation rights. He oversees the entire production of the film, within the limits of the budget set by the production company. He hires the crew himself, including the cinematographer, who often reports directly to him. He draws up the contracts, signs them and, most of the time, verifies their proper execution.
He or she is often present on the set, to ensure budget control or compliance with deadlines. As such, he is the production manager's direct superior, and is responsible for a more global control of the film's production, while the latter has a more concrete task, linked to the actual management of shooting and preparation.
