The screenwriter is the artist who imagines stories, characters and situations for film productions.
Screenwriters know how to handle words and bring a story to life. His overflowing imagination enables him to create unique, lively worlds.
The role of the scriptwriter
He is, of course, the author of the screenplay. The specifics of his work can vary considerably, depending on the nature of the project and the personality of the director. In some cases, he may have written the entire treatment and final version of the script, before the director arrived on the project.
Or, in other professional settings, he may develop a treatment (including the story's subject matter and main themes) suggested by the filmmaker or producer, transforming the ideas and even suggestions of the future film team into a clear, structured narrative.
Some screenwriters work closely with the director on the writing, in a four-handed creative process that allows the director to be involved in this early stage of the work. The director's work generally stops when filming begins, although some scriptwriters continue to make changes to dialogue or narration during production.
