Role and duties of the casting director
Casting directors work closely with directors and producers, as well as with acting agencies. His choice is often definitive for smaller roles, which the filmmaker does not necessarily have the time to choose himself. He acts in a more consultative way on the larger roles, generally making an initial selection, which is then submitted to the director and producer.
Most of the time, this selection is carried out by the casting director himself, who then sends the selected actors to the director. If the role calls for a fresh face, the casting director may also conduct a more open and wild search, sometimes even on the street, to find the right actor, not necessarily a professional, for the part.
