The production assistant is responsible for coordinating and managing all logistical, administrative and financial aspects of an audiovisual project.
The production assistant is generally considered to be the production manager's direct second in all his or her activities. They handle contracts, scheduling, shooting requests, etc.
Role and missions of the Production Assistant
The production assistant also has a more specific area of expertise, notably in financial management and logistics. He or she is directly involved in negotiating the various estimates required for filming, as well as drafting subsidy applications and budget forecasts. He or she must also ensure that the contracts of most members of the film crew are properly drawn up, and as such must possess a minimum of legal knowledge.
During filming, his work also includes a purely organizational aspect, more specifically linked to human resources management. He or she is responsible for following up on equipment rental, booking crew accommodation and travel, and scheduling. In other words, he or she is responsible for the administrative side of the production manager's responsibilities.
