Role and missions of the VFX supervisor
The VFX supervisor is the point of reference for all those involved in the visual effects of a film. He or she intervenes upstream of the shoot and supervises a team of technicians (cinematographer, director of photography, sound engineer, etc.) and actors, taking stock of the special effects that need to be implemented.
He thinks about the scenes that will require specific visual work: special effects, computer-generated imagery, motion capture, etc. The special effects will then be created in post-production (simulated explosions, heroes in the air, etc.).
In addition, he ensures the overall consistency of image sources, and also plans artistic, financial, legal, technical and human resources to ensure that the project is ready and delivered on time.
