The job of television on-air mixer, also known as sound engineer or audiovisual mixer, involves managing the sound during the broadcast of television programs.
He pre-mixes the dialogues and then incorporates the sound tracks to bring the right aesthetic to a film, in agreement with the director.
Role and responsibilities of the television sound mixer
This profession was born with talking pictures, when sound was optically recorded on film, the scene had to be precisely orchestrated and it was the sound engineer who validated the take or not. Even today, when the director gives the command "motor", it's the sound engineer who has to respond "it's running". Technological advances have changed roles.
Sound engineers work in three different fields: film, television and radio.
