Motion designer or compositing artist: What's the difference?

The motion designer creates images that didn’t exist before; the compositing artist assembles images that already exist. The latter blends the layers of a film shot—set, characters, effects, lighting—to produce a seamless, photorealistic image in Nuke, at the end of the VFX pipeline.

What kind of education do you need to become a motion designer?
