Compositing graphic designer's role and missions
The compositing artist intervenes at the end of the production chain to assemble all the visual layers of a shot. He or she integrates characters, sets, special effects, light and color to obtain a homogeneous final rendering. His work is often invisible to the viewer, but without him, images would remain fragmented.
Compositing is a technical and creative profession, requiring rigor, an eye for detail and mastery of specialized software. The aim is to harmonize elements to give the illusion that they belong to the same universe.

Key knowledge to master
- Proficiency in compositing software (Nuke, After Effects).
- Knowledge of calibration and color correction.
- Sense of visual integration and lighting effects.
- Knowledge of video formats and post-production workflows.
- Ability to solve complex technical problems.
He works with animators, texturers, lightists and VFX supervisors. His constant exchanges guarantee the final coherence of the shots.
In the production chain, compositing is the ultimate image stage: it enables us to move from separate elements to a finished cinematic rendering.
At ESRA, students in the ESRA Animation program acquire these skills in postproduction and digital compositing.
