The 24th Beijing Film Animation Awards took place from October 30 to November 2, 2024 in Beijing.
ESRA was invited to take part alongside some of the best animation schools in the world, including Gobelins, Cal Arts, USC, Sheridan in Canada, Animation Workshop in Denmark and Ulster University in Northern Ireland.
It was an opportunity to see the best animated films from internationally selected productions and schools.
Among the films screened was the first 8K animated film selected for the Berlin Festival 2023 Harvest by Sun Lijun, Vice President of the Beijing Film Academy, as well as student films such as Wild Animals from USC, Shines of the trees and Wormwood from Les Gobelins.

Following on from our exchanges on animation partnerships between schools, we were able to discover Sun Lijun's new documentary celebrating 100 years of Chinese animation.
The festival and meetings took place on the new campus of the Beijing Film Academy, a prestigious school with huge premises, state-of-the-art equipment, studios, brilliant teachers and students all sharing the same quest for excellence.

The Chinese animated film industry is booming, representing a 13-billion-euro market that has grown by 25% over the past two years. Last summer, the film Monkey King generated nearly 780 million euros in box-office receipts in China alone!
ESRA is also a partner of BFA, and student exchanges and joint initiatives are planned after this first year of partnership.
