Esra Thursday michel munz

Last night, Thursday February 27, 2025, ESRA Thursdays welcomed Michel Munz, screenwriter, director and composer, for a captivating meeting with students. Best known for co-writing the celebrated trilogy La Vérité si je mens! trilogy (1997, 2001, 2012), Michel Munz has also made his mark on French cinema with a number of successful comedies.

The evening began with a screening of "Ah! Si j'étais riche" (2002), co-directed with Gérard Bitton. This comedy, starring Jean-Pierre Darroussin and Valeria Bruni Tedeschi, tells the story of a man who, in the midst of a divorce, wins the lottery and tries to hide his fortune from his ex-wife. A clever script that combines misunderstandings and humor.

In the discussion that followed the screening, Michel Munz talked in detail about the genesis of the film, the writing process and the direction. He also shared anecdotes about the shoot and the direction of the actors.

ESRA students took the opportunity to question the guest on the balance between comedy and emotion, as well as the constraints of producing a popular film. Michel Munz insisted on the importance of comic rhythm, casting and precise dialogue to make a comedy work.

Many thanks to Michel Munz for his generosity and enthusiasm!

See you soon for the next ESRA Thursday with a new guest!
