Since 2013, students in the "Subtitling, dubbing" Master's program at theUniversity of Nice Sophia Antipolis and 3rd-year ISTS students have been combining their skills in a masterclass.
Dubbing requires the involvement of several professionals: detector(s), author(s), actor(s), artistic director(s), sound engineer(s). This course highlights the interweaving of these different professions. For three days, the students worked in real-life situations, using texts written for the dubbing of the same scene taken from an existing film (fiction or TV series). The ISTS students thus offered the University students several mixes in real time.
David RIBOTTI, translator - adapter - founder of the VF Lab company, Vincent VIOLETTE, actor specialized in dubbing and artistic director, Frédéric GARNERO, sound manager and professor at ISTS, demonstrated that their role is not limited to the technical gesture, since their point of view is decisive in achieving quality dubbing. The work carried out using an interactive device set up for these sessions highlighted the artistic dimension of all these professions.
This training applies equally to dubbing and post-synchronization, as it introduced students to Mosaic software, one of the most widely used by post-production labs.
