AI and audiovisual creation: a look back at the second study day organized by ESRA's Research Department

February 2026

On January 29, ESRA's Research Department held its second study day at the Beaugrenelle campus, focusing on the theme of "AI and audiovisual creation."

This meeting is part of ESRA's commitment to supporting major changes in the audiovisual sector and fostering forward-thinking discussions on the tools that are transforming creative practices today. Around 40 students attended the event in person, while the group's various campuses followed the discussions remotely.

Three speakers from complementary backgrounds contributed their expertise and opened the debate.

David Defendi, writer, screenwriter, and founder of GENARIO, examined the impact of artificial intelligence on audiovisual writing. He discussed the new possibilities offered by these tools, while questioning the role of the author and the artistic dimension in a context where assisted generation is becoming increasingly powerful.

Rania Bouabdallah, PhD in film sociology and founder of R.B Insight Consulting, presented an analysis of the transformations taking place in creative professions, particularly that of storyboarder, in the era of generative AI. Her presentation highlighted the evolution of skills and the redefinition of roles within creative teams.

Finally, Julien Brunet, a lawyer specializing in entertainment law/ICT and co-founder of the Brunet Riahi law firm, addressed the legal issues related to artificial intelligence: copyright, liability, intellectual property, and regulatory framework. These are all key issues for future film and audiovisual professionals.

Through this study day, ESRA confirms its commitment to training students who are able to understand technological transformations, master their uses, and assess their artistic, ethical, and legal implications.

The Research Department is already looking forward to a third study day in the coming months, continuing this dynamic reflection on the contemporary challenges facing the audiovisual sector.
