Thirty students in front of and behind the cameras to design, produce reports, shoot on set, and thus produce two twenty-minute news magazines in just a few days... For the third year running, a dozen ESRA 3 Television Production students and fifteen of their apprentice journalist counterparts from the Master 2 Journalism: Reporting and Investigation program at Sciences-Po Rennes took up the challenge set by their two establishments during a partnership week.
It took place from Monday December 9 to Saturday December 14 on the ESRA Bretagne premises, and ended with the recording of the programs, under professional live conditions, on the school's specially equipped TV set, with, on the journalism side, presenters, columnists and guests, and, on the technical side, ESRA Bretagne students in all the positions required to create a program, from cameramen to director, from editorial scriptwriters to stage manager, from editors to vision engineer, and finally to sound recording operators and chief mixer.
These students had already had the opportunity to try out common working methods together, since the previous year they had taken part, under similar conditions, in a "news" week which aimed to design and produce only news reports within a limited timeframe.
For this new week of "Magazine d'info Multicam", one of the programs dealt with the theme of an alternative Christmas, and how to approach the festive season in a spirit of solidarity, by supporting recycling and second life for objects. The second program was more broadly devoted to the local news of the week in Rennes, with a particular focus on social movements, notably through the mobilizations of firefighters for better consideration of the specificities of their profession.
Once again this year, ESRA Bretagne and Sciences-Po Rennes had mobilized no less than five lecturers and professionals, specialists in their respective fields, to oversee this rather unique educational experience. Both Programs can only be delighted with the results of their approach, which aims to expose students to the professional realities that await them, to the discovery of professions that will be close to them, and to a form of hybridization of skills through experience.
