The amphitheater was packed for the appearance of the two co-writers ofIntouchables. Is there a link between the attendance at the masterclass and the guests' box-office performances? After all, Intouchables is the second biggest French film success of all time. Almost 20 million tickets were sold in France, and 44 million in Europe. Many questions have been asked about this performance, and about the pleasures and dangers of success when it's out of the ordinary. Clearly, the two filmmakers have not changed their way of life, nor their way of seeing the world (and, by extension, cinema). No doubt their budgets are increasingly comfortable, but they continue to deal with the subjects that are closest to their hearts. That said, they recognize that Samba (their latest film to date, screened today) would probably not have seen the light of day without the success of Intouchables. But the two guests first spoke of their passion for cinema, which never wavers, even if their way of doing things is very pragmatic. They also stressed the importance of working together. Linked since childhood, the two men share a common taste for the same films. And it's only natural that they should co-write and co-direct. Without one of them being dominant in any particular field. Immediately approachable and always warm (even if Eric TOLEDANO is easier to talk to than his accomplice Olivier NAKACHE), the two filmmakers won over the students present. A wonderful evening.
