Guillaume SCHIFFMAN is the third director of photography to come to Les Jeudis, after Gérard DE BATTISTA and Laurent DAILLAND.
Being the son of Suzanne SCHIFFMANFrançois TRUFFAUT 's right-hand man, Guillaume SCHIFFMAN looked back on his youth at the heart of cinema, insisting that it was by chance that he became a cinematographer on the side. He presented the job as an artistic one, acknowledging that he had no particular technical skills. If some recognize a style, SCHIFFMAN insisted that the cinematographer is at the service of the director, and that it is the director who holds the keys to his film. Many questions focused on Gainsbourg (Vie héroïque) by Joann SFAR, the film the students had just seen, but Guillaume SCHIFFMAN was also asked a lot about his relationship with Michel HAZANAVICIUS, with whom he has collaborated on his last four films, including The Artist, for which he received high praise. He took the opportunity to remind us of the stiffness of American filming, and advised against taking the risk. He also signed the photo for Emmanuel BERCOT 's Elle s'en va , in cinemas next week.
