MASTER CLASS ON FRIDAY OCTOBER 18, 2019 AT 2:00 PM IN THE AMPHITHEATRE
"Cinema as an epic and an eco-system
Pascale BRETON, Writer, Director.
We sometimes speak of filmmakers who are too rare without necessarily specifying their polysemy.
Pascale Breton makes "rare films", if we can put it that way: films that we don't often get to see, with a narrative and aesthetic force that, if we look at the annual output (French and beyond), borders on the exceptional; but she's also a filmmaker who has only released two features and a handful of shorts. This is due to a film economy that is highly unsuited to singular projects, resulting in many stories that have yet to be told beyond her scripts.
Far removed from theory, what she writes and directs seems to be driven by a strong narrative instinct. Far from clichés, without the slightest compromise, and yet perfectly in tune with the period, systematically offering a sharp point of view on her contemporaries.
The master class we invited her to was an opportunity to look back on her career and analyze a body of work that may be rare, but is nonetheless profound and thematically prolific.
