Guillaume LAURANT accepted ESRA's Jeudis de l'ESRA invitation on February 13. He is the fourth scriptwriter to visit us, after Michel ALEXANDRE, Olivier DAZAT and Gilles TAURAND.
Guillaume LAURANT followed a self-taught path, claiming to have learned the basic rules of his trade from a book by Michel CHION. But since becoming a professional screenwriter - and novelist - some twenty years ago, he has penned a number of screenplays for films that have gone down in history. He has worked with Diane BERTRAND, Jean BECKER, Albert DUPONTEL and Jean-Pierre AMERIS. He wrote the screenplay for his latest film, L'Homme qui rit. But it was his long collaboration with Jean-Pierre JEUNET which attracted most of the attention of the students, who had just been shown The Fabulous Destiny of Amélie Poulain. Guillaume LAURANT analyzed the way he works with the director, going back over Amélie Poulain of course, but also on Un long dimanche de fiançailles, the Canadian adventure of his latest film TS Spivet, and on The Odyssey of Pi, which was not shot by JEUNET after all...
