Etienne CHATILIEZ added his name to the list of speakers at ESRA Thursdays on February 6.
He didn't talk much about technique, admitting that it wasn't his main preoccupation. He did, however, defend the status of the auteur, who is the mastermind behind the films he signs. There's an obvious unity in CHATILIEZ's work, as he loves nothing more than slightly sarcastic comedy, in the image of what was being done in Italy in the 60s and 70s. Hence the importance of dialogue and comedians, with whom CHATILIEZ has always enjoyed working. He also talked about advertising, a genre in which he cut his teeth, with the commercials he directed clearly bearing his stamp. About La vie est un long fleuve tranquille, the filmmaker confided in us about his northern origins and the way he observed his contemporaries to sketch them on screen.
