ESRA students had the pleasure of meeting Claude LELOUCH on Thursday, October 24, 2019. The event included a screening of "La bonne année", a gangster film that mixes love and banditry.

Initially, questions focused on the film being screened, i.e. Claude LELOUCH's desire to film about banditry, but also about male-female love relationships in cinema. The film "La bonne année" was then dissected after having fascinated the students. We found ourselves asking questions about the choice of actors, notably evoking the desire for flexibility that Claude LELOUCH likes to find in the choice of actors, through their spontaneity. The director also evoked the current era of great cinema, which is moving to online platforms.

There was no shortage of questions, and the students were passionate, to say the least, about Claude LELOUCH's gigantic career and his desire to make a film with his cell phone. A film called "La vertu des impondérables", born of the theft in January 2018 of a script and all his notes on nearly fifty years of observing human nature. The director wants to tell the story of how the bad things in life can often turn out to be great. At the age of 80, he has decided to shoot this lesson in existence entirely on cell phones. He will explain to students what flexibility technology has given him, and how he can take his art of capturing life even further.
