Philippe Carcassonne had promised to tell his wife, Anne Fontaine, about us. He must have done so by presenting us in a favorable light, since she in turn came after the screening of Les Innocentes, a remarkable historical film shot in Poland...
On paper, there were plenty of reasons to drown. Anne Fontaine explained to us how she had survived. She also explained how she had chosen her cast, most of whom were Polish, and how she had wanted to talk about faith and religion, which are at the heart of the film. The amphitheatre was quite full, so questions were plentiful. Many of them came from female students, who perhaps felt more concerned than on other occasions. Because the subject of the film implied that we should talk about women. But also because we had a female director with us, which, let's face it, isn't that often seen in the lecture hall.
