Etienne COLIN, sound engineer and mixer of the soundtrack to the film The Artist, composed by Ludovic BOURCE, was the guest of the ESRA Group's ISTS section. A fascinating evening on the relationship between art and technique in sound creation for film.
After a screening of the film and a bonus on the recording of the music, Etienne COLIN told a packed Jean Renoir amphitheater how the score written by Ludovic Bource was performed and recorded in Brussels with the Brussel Philarmonic of Flanders. Etienne COLIN gave the students all the technical and artistic details behind the recording choices. He also stressed the artistic relationship that must necessarily exist between composer and sound engineer on the one hand, and director and composer on the other.
