September 24, 2014: Collaboration with Youtube

September 23 2014

ESRA is launching a new collaboration with Youtube.

ESRA has teamed up with Youtube to develop a course in content creation for the web, and distribute it both to its students and to leading French YouTubers.

Indeed, the creators of channels with large audiences are mostly self-taught. This approach is in line with Youtube 's overall commitment to supporting the creation of quality content for its platform, and the success of channels that have established themselves as leaders among users.

Educational partnership with YoutubeFor theESRAThe aim is to integrate into its teaching the operating logic of Youtube, the world leader in video on the web, which is currently changing the way images are consumed, and winning considerable success with young audiences. But also to encourage students to take an interest in the evolution of traditional video formats, and to take a professional approach to the creation of content for web distribution.

For Joachim AZOULAY, who supervises the program at ESRA, "it's an opportunity for us to reflect with Youtube on the different formats emerging on the web, and on how to teach them. ESRA's 3rd year students all attended a seminar at the start of the school year, during which we discussed content creation and audience development on Youtube. This course was developed following pedagogical exchanges between our teachers and the people in charge of Youtube Next Lab, organized at Google's initiative with several European schools."

"Today, more and more young creators are making a living from their productions on Youtube, which is becoming a real career opportunity. Whether through their music, comedy, video games, sports, beauty or other videos, these young people are federating online communities of increasingly passionate and committed fans. It's in this context that we're launching ambitious collaborations with schools and institutes of Programs, includingESRA, which has chosen to innovate in order to accompany its students into the new territories of creativity and online expression. These training programs will be based on the exchange of expertise between accomplished YouTubers and students, creators in the making."

During the 2014/2015 academic year,ESRA will be organizing workshops with Youtube creators and students from the school. The aim is to enable certain creators with talent but little technical knowledge to become familiar with more professional production methods.

As part of the program, the Youtubers who run the most popular channels in France will also have access to the set of theESRA Paris throughout the year for productions in collaboration with students.
The idea is to confront two ways of working, so that students and Youtubers can learn from each other, and to enable channels to Youtube who have many subscribers to produce more qualitative videos with the help ofESRA for shooting, editing, sound and post-production.
